Color Romance: Blushing for Green

Ttransitioning from Summer to Fall always seems to be a bit of a challenge especially since the color pallets of each season tend to be completely opposite.  I feel that the perfect color marriage for the transition of these two seasons is a subtle blushy pink with a masculine army/pine green.  Here are a few pieces that fit into this so-right-now color scheme...

Ombre Hair

I have been dying to change my look lately.  I get the itch about every 6 months or so and right now I am looking for something a bit edgier.  I thought maybe I would change my cut and add bangs or something, but I have already been there and done that - also, it took forever to grow out!!  A style I have had my eye on, seen in many of my favorite mags and blogs, is the ombre hair technique.  I have seen it in many color variations such as ash blonde with light blonde ends, dark brown with copper ends, and black with red ends.  My favorite combo is the dark brown with coppery,caramel ends. I am however a bit worried that this will slightly ruin the healthy texture that my hair currently has.  Maybe its worth it?  Plus, you can just keep cutting off the most damaged part since its at the ends.  What do you think of this look?  Yay or nay?

This girls is a bit too dramatic for me, but looks really cool on her!
Jessica Biel's is perfect, subtle but noticeable.

Color Crush

One of my absolute favorite looks is starting with a few key muted pieces and add in a couple small elements of bright colors that really pop!  Here I choose to brighten my look with a punchy green satin clutch and a orangy-red pout for some drama.  What do you think?  JP got pretty artsy with the shots - yes, this what we do for fun when we are bored.

Norma Kamali Eyewear

Everyone has that one accessory that they cannot seem to ever stop buying whether it's watches (my husband), hats, or shoes. Those of you who know me well and who have shopped with me in the past are used to me entering a store and making a b-line for the sunglasses department!  I admit it - my #1 fetish is my sunnies!  I simply cannot get enough of them!  Somehow they have the ability to make me feel so many different ways each time I wear them and give me a little boost of confidence.  Weather it be Edgy, glam or sexy these three pairs from Norma Kamali are on the top of my list.  I also love the model's hair style and pretty pink pout.  Cute :)

My "Contents"

Okay, so I know I am not the first person to come up with a blog post such as this one, but everytime I see one similar, I am instantly delighted.  What is more fun than getting to view the contents of someones most secret and prized possession?  It is a true depiction of who a person is and what their day-to-day life is like.  Last year, my sister Laura, did a post on her blog showcasing the contents of her bag and explained the inspiration behind her post was the Kate Spade book, Contents.  The book, a limited edition, no longer in print and signed by Kate Spade herself makes it a real treasure.  Inside features the handbag contents of ballet dancers, women in high power jobs, and moms (like my sister).  Below, I share with you the contents of my bag.....

1.  Vintage Gucci wallet (given to me by my mother-in-law :)
2.  I-phone 3GS and my pearl and crystal bling cover (love)
3.  Zeno Hot Spot.  I seriously swear by this thing!  It gets rid of blemishes with gentle heat.
4.  Peter Thomas Roth suncreen - the best suncreen on the planet!  It super dry and stays on all day.
5.  Business card case
6.  Ray Ban aviators
7.  Moleskine little notebook - for random thoughts and ideas
8.  OPI nail polish for touch-ups in "A Good Man-Darin is Hard To Find".
9.  NARS cream blush stick in "Orgasm" - go from dead to gorg in seconds with this baby pink cheek splash
10.  Apple raspberry fruity flakes from Trader Joes - always need a little snack on hand or I get cranky :)
11.  Olympus camera - I am constantly seeing things that inspire me so having this on hand is key
12.  USB flash drive
13.  Lip brush - use this to apply lipstick like the pros
14.  NARS lipstick in "Love Devotion"

One Top - Three Ways

Lately I've been trying to buy pieces that are super versatile and can be worn more than one way.  I purchased this cute military inspired top from H&M a couple of weeks ago and have already worn it a few times for all different types of occasions.  The color and silhouette of this top give it the ability to be casual, but the luxe feel and look of the fabric give it a dressy appeal.  It is also a good transitional piece because it is virtually season less.  Here are a few looks I have put together incorporating this top.  Do you have any pieces that you can pretty much wear with anything??

{Top - H&M} {Skirt - Urban Outfitters} {Bag - Zara} {Shoes - Steve Madden}

{Top - H&M} {Dress - Target} {Head scarf - American Apparel} {Necklace - Marc by Marc Jacobs} {Shoes - Target}

{Top - H&M} {Pink Top - H&M} {Jeans - Forever 21} {Necklace - Ann Taylor Loft} {Shoes - Steve Madden}

J. Crew Bridal Boutique

Have any of you seen the sneak peek on J.Crew's website of their new bridal boutique on Madison Ave. in NY?  Modeled on a classic French Salon, it is simply stunning not only from a fashion perspective, but an interior design perspective as well.  I love the shelving display in the photo featured above.  The mix of these organic colors contrasting with the stark white is spot on.  I also love the star made from tiles on the hickory herringbone floor.

Dying over this imperfect chandelier with the mix of chains, crystals and ribbons.  Also am digging the coral colored screen with nail heads.  I will definitely be keeping these images on file when I am ready to design my next home.

Perfectly displayed.

In addition to the lovely dresses J.Crew has to offer here they have also teamed up with jewelry designers including Miriam Haskell and Lulu Frost to complete their bridal ensembles.  Pictured here are two of my favorite Lulu pieces.  I can't wait to visit the store next time I am in New York!

Little Dutch Girl

After a couple recent trips to the mall (window shopping, I promise) I have decided that a sturdy, chic clog is in my near future.  Admittedly, clogs have not always been my go-to shoe, but this season designers have found a way to make them modern and sleek.  I would pair them with a long chunky sweater and leggings, or a black maxi dress and jean jacket.  I think right now the front runner is the Sam Edelman black one (6'oclock).  Which one would you choose?

Lonny Magazine AUG/SEPT issue!

photo c/o Lonny Mag
The August/September issue of Lonny came out today and is packed full of exciting design ideas plus tons of eye candy currently out in the marketplace.  However, the most exciting part of this issue is on page 29.  Featured here as part of the market section is my beautiful, design savvy sister, Laura Naples from Neapolitan Home.  Laura is a crazy talented graphic artist and self-taught calligraphist.  Neapolitan as described by Laura, " is a paper studio that incorporates hand-lettering and custom design with handmade and specialty papers".  Her latest innovation: Vintage recovered books - original jackets have been replaced with beautifully patterned paper and the titles are calligraphed by hand!  Genius!  Perfect for a coffee table or displayed on your favorite shelf amongst other brag worthy treasures.  I can't wait to see what Laura comes up with next!

{Laura's page featured here} photo c/o Lonny Mag}  As a side note - how gorgeous is she??

Some must-have items featured in this issue!  I am dying to purchase all of them!!

Project Runway Season 8

Project Runway Season 8 started last week and so far I am not too impressed with the majority of the designers.  There is one designer however that really stands out amongst the bad: Gretchen Jones.  Gretchen is the Designer/Creative Director for the label Mothlove that is self described as, "ethereal and sexy in its very simplicity.Bohemian in lifestyle and design, Jones aims to create collections that beg to be worn and fallen in love with..."  Imagine lots of silky fabrics and sexy silhouettes with a loose drape.

Although her designs and color palettes are simple, they carry a young and fresh appeal that boast a very modern aesthetic. As I was watching last night, I went online to read her profile and she lists her favorite designers as: Vena Cava, Chloe, Rachel Comey - many of my favorites as well!  She has taste and style which many of the other designers don't seem to posses thus far...I know who I am placing my bets on this season!!

Tickled Pink

Belt: Ann Taylor Loft {only 19.99!}
Bracelet: Elke Kramer

Jewel Cluster Headband: J. Crew {on sale for 19.99!}

What do you think about these glossy pink gems?  The color brings me back to childhood with that late eighties/early 90's hue.  These three items manage to make the color modern with their shape and composition.  I think each of these items would be a good piece to throw into my Fall wardrobe for a pop of color.  Even though the shade is a bit summery, paired with emerald greens and eggplants would be divine.

Celebrity Style Spotlight: Olivia Palermo

Love her or hate her, Olivia Palermo is a true style icon of this decade that continues to delight us with her unexpected ensembles.  Many of you know her from the MTV show, The City.  She is also a NYC socialite that is typically seen pictured at the most exclusive events - always perfectly styled from head to toe.

Here are a few of her looks that I absolutely love.  I continue to look to her for style tips and fresh ideas.

Here is a look inspired by Olivia that I would put together.

{PS. how obsessed with these Loeffler Randall leopard booties are you?}

Current Lusts

Lately I have been lusting over a few things that include: anything in a shocking pink hue, anything striped (mostly black and white), anything art deco inspired, anything sequined, anything that has a painted fabric look, anything ballerina inspired - and of course - bows, bows and more bows!

1.  How much do you love this Rachel Roy jacket?  I am totally in love with the painterly print on the fabric.

2.  I have to confess that I actually own this book, but don't own the the version with this limited edition box cover.  How beautiful is the mint green color with the gold lettering?

3.  This ring is so unique and screams art deco.  Want, want, want!

4.  My sister discovered this jacket during a trip to Anthropologie last weekend.  It looks sooo expensive to me, but its only $98!!  I would pair this with jeans or a silk pink dress.  Just gorg!

5.  These chairs are so 1960's glam.  I imagine a woman with a perfectly coiffed beehive applying false eyelashes sitting in this chair at her vanity.  So chic!

6.  I feel like a black bow tie is the perfect fall staple.  I am going to pick one up ASAP!  I would wear this with a chambray shirt buttoned up all the way and paired with a sequined skirt and a blazer.

7.  These sequined shoes are just fabulous...need I say more.  They would be great with ankle length skinny jeans and a chunky merino sweater.  LOVE.

8.  I have been lusting over these crystal pink Chanel glasses for like a year now.  I have perfect eyesight, so justifying the purchase is tough, but maybe I can find a knock off pair one of these days.  I am still searching...

What have you been lusting over lately???
